A JEWISH CALL FOR JUSTICE

PURSUING JUSTICE & PEACE; LOVING ISRAEL: Making Israel Part of Our Tikkun Olam Agenda

As the situation in Israel grows increasingly heartbreaking, it is often difficult for Jews committed to social justice to touch the issue of Israel.  Rhetoric on the right and the left alienate good people from pursuing a relationship with Israel, and stifle potentially positive debate on how the American Jewish community can use its political and financial influence to promote lasting peace in the Middle East.

While many Jewish social justice efforts avoid this volatile topic, Righteous Indignation: A Jewish Call for Justice (Jewish Lights) devotes a major section of the book to Israel and Israel/Palestine.

Join Righteous Indignation co-editor Margie Klein and local leaders to discuss why Israel is an important part of any Jewish social justice agenda.  We will explore how we can expand Seattle's Jewish community conversation to include an array of acceptable perspectives.  In particular, we will discuss how we can allow people to build a strong connection to Israel while also recognizing that work for justice and peace in Israel and between Israel and Palestinians is a critical component of ‘Tikkun Olam’- “world repair.”
